About me

I'm a Design Director based in south Lincolnshire, UK with over 15 years experience designing experiences for audiences ranging from school children to professors and consumers to installers.

After completing a degree in Digital Art and Technology at the University of Plymouth I moved back to the Lincolnshire countryside where I now live with my wife and dog (a tibetan terrier named Harper). I have spent the last 6 years working primarily remotely which has given me the time to hone both my routine and set up.

Since 2015 I have been working for Modern Human, starting as a UI designer and progressing to Design Director where I am responsible for ensuring the quality of all design output from the studio which has nearly tripled in size during my tenure.

History

Modern Human

June 2015 - Present

Over the past 7 years I have been responsible for leading digital product design projects from discovery research through to coded prototypes. During that time, I have also been responsible for evolving the Modern Human brand and overseeing all design output from the studio. This included managing project members of different specialties to ensure suceessful outcomes.

Redgate

February 2012 - June 2015

As a UX specialist I spent time working on many of the different products in the portfolio, including both desktop and web apps. During my time at Redgate I was embedded within the development teams and was responsible for creating designs for features and performing remote usability testing. I also worked alongside developers to create the first design system for applications. This enabled us to develop features more quickly and consistently, based on a unified technology stack.

e4education

June 2007 - February 2012

After spending my university placement year at E4Education, I returned following my graduation as a content co-ordinator. I was responsible for assisting customers to populate their new websites and providing support with the company’s proprietary CMS. I quickly progressed to designing and developing bespoke solutions and project managing some of the company’s largest contracts. My final role at the company was that of Experience Lead for their virtual learning environment. As part of this role I was responsible for all UX on the platform and worked closely with another designer to develop my wireframes into high fidelity designs. I then worked with the developers to build these and take them into schools for usability testing. I also introduced new working practices within the organisation to aid both design and implementation stages of the build process.
